New Addiction

Just what I needed, something else to waste time on. I lay the blame on Zack Scott for this new addiction. By watching his videos on his YouTube channel ZackScottGames, I got the itch to buy Minecraft. If you haven't seen it before, it's basically virtual LEGO's. The game sets you in a random environment that you can interact with completely. You can rip apart mountains, build a mansion, create a farm, create a river, etc, etc... The only catch is you have to work to do any of it. It's not a God game in which you can change anything you want with the click of a button. You have to do everything yourself cube by cube. You even have to build your own tools to get stuff done.

During the daytime everything above ground is safe & you're free to do whatever & go anywhere. However at night time, and below the ground in caves, horrible creatures are waiting to kill you. Thankfully they're too stupid to work doorknobs...yet some of them are capable of using bow & arrows?

When you first start the game, you have a short period of time to get the basics. Shelter & light. You need to build a home with no openings, and light it well if you want to keep the monsters at bay. My first day I just barely managed to build a pickaxe & find coal before dark. I didn't have time to build a small home. The sun was going down, light was fading so I ran to a big hill & dug into the side of it. I threw up a couple torches & filled in the opening with dirt. While waiting for the sun to come back out I made a small room big enough to store a couple things in later.

My second day was spent fixing up the outside of my cave entrance & making a bed. If you have a bed you can sleep through the night. About 5 seconds after you go to bed, you wake up & it's daytime. When I woke up on day 3 (in game time, not real time) I noticed that, for the most part, the land in front of my cave was extremely flat & mostly grass. I decided day three would be spent leveling the ground perfectly & replacing everything that wasn't dirt so that grass would grow. This ended up taking a lot longer than 1 day...took about 2 weeks.

I didn't have any other plans when I finished leveling the grounds, so I decided to look around a little. That's when I found out how easy it was to get lost when everything is made of blocks. So I decided to make some markers to help get my bearings. I just made some cobblestone pillars & added torches to them. The biggest of which I put on top of my cave, and decided to call it "The Flaming Penis". Zack Scott calls his spawn point "The Gay Bath House", and I decided to make something more gay sounding just for fun.

While looking around I noticed one of the mountains to the left of my home had lava pouring out the side. I figured my next building would be where that mountain stood. Didn't know what type of building, but it has a good view of the beach, and I could make my own lava falls. It took a long time to take out the mountain, and make the lava go where I wanted, but I did. I haven't finished the back side of the building, and it needs a lot of work still, but the hard stuff is done.

I got a little bored with the building, and decided to completely sand my beach. Most of the land around the water was already sand, but less than half of the ground under the water was. My OCD just wouldn't allow that. So I dug out the dirt & got sand from a near by dessert. Most of the water was only 1 block deep, which is nice, but I also had to finish leveling it all off so it's all the same.

I don't know what I want to do next, but I will soon have to do some actual mining. I've done a little bit, but avoided doing much as I find it boring & I get turned around easy in caves. I really need some iron & other material though...so I can't put it off much more. Mining aside, I'll probably do 1 of 2 things. Finish the lava falls, or build an underwater glass tunnel that leads to a nearby island. I saw how to build the tunnel on YouTube, and I think it would be neat.

I'll try to take more screen shots as I'm working on things. These were taken yesterday, and I didn't take any as I was working on them.
